Effect of Dexamethasone on Gonadotropin Secretion in Postpartum Anestrous Range Cows
نویسنده
چکیده
Story in Brief An extended interval from calving to first estrus in beef cattle may be associated with environmental stress and, suckling which increase the secretion of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACT H) by the pituitary gland. Increased secretion of ACTH causes greater amounts of corticoids to be secreted by the adrenal gland. This experiment was designed to determine if treatment of anestrous cows with dexamethasone, a synthetic corticoid, would inhibit the release of ACTH by the pituitary and, as a result, alter secretion of the luteinizing hormone (LH) and alter the interval from calving to estrus. Treatment with dexamethasone did not influence the percentage of cows in estrus by 85 days after calving, however, it tended to lengthen the interval from calving to first estrus in those cows that exhibited estrus. The. pattern of LH secretion was altered for several days after treatment.

Effects of two different protocols: injection of progesterone vs. injection of GnRH+PGF2a on the onset of estrus in dairy cows with postpartum anestrous
Postpartum anestrous is one of the most important problems in the dairy industry in the world and especially in Iran. The objective of present study was to compare the efficacy of two hormonal programs for recycling of postpartum anestrous cows. For this reason, 230 Holstein cows from 4 similar dairy herds (with totally 2560 cow and unique management and feeding system) located on the suburb of...

Three experiments were conducted to determine whether and how weaning, quanti ty of milk produced, suckling intensity, age of dam, or a combination of these factors influence ovarian and/or pituitary response to pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMS), synthetic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), or ovariectomy in postpartum beef cows. Ovarian and pituitary responses, as determined by plasma...

متن کاملEffect of prostaglandin F2 alpha-and gonadotropin releasing hormone-induced luteinizing hormone releases on ovulation and corpus luteum function of beef cows.
Luteinizing hormone (LH) concentrations were measured in suckled beef cows treated during the postpartum period with prostaglandin F2 alpha (5 mg Alfaprostol; PGF2 alpha) and then gonadotropin releasing hormone (100 micrograms Cystorelin 30 h after PGF2 alpha; GnRH). The objective was to determine if PGF2 alpha would cause a release of LH in the absence of progesterone and affect the GnRH-induc...
متن کاملEffect of naloxone on serum luteinizing hormone, cortisol and prolactin concentrations in anestrous beef cows.
Two experiments were conducted with the opioid antagonist naloxone to determine the effect of opioid receptor blockade on hormone secretion in postpartum beef cows. In Exp. 1, nine anestrous postpartum beef cows were used to measure the effect of naloxone on serum luteinizing hormone (LH), cortisol and prolactin concentrations. Cows received either saline (n = 4) or 200 mg naloxone in saline (n...
